One of the major challenges in the post-genomics age regards the study and understanding of spatio-temporal gene activation and its relationship with anatomical landmarks. We have been applying visualization and image analysis, pattern formation simulations, and complex networks concepts concepts to address such a problem.
The possibility to use complex networks and discrete mathematics for the analysis of 1D time series (e.g. amino acids in proteins, heart beats, and neuronal spike trains) has also been considered.
